Who We Are:

The New Earth Partnership consists of representatives from several congregations and environmental organizations as well as concerned individuals. We are gathering people and congregations from all faith traditions desiring to reconnect with the natural world, to care for creation, and to develop faith-based responses to the critical challenge for humans to live sustainably.

We invite individuals and communities of faith in the Twin Cities area to join us. Our Steering Committee meets monthly, and we welcome new members.

Why We Exist:

Human activity is increasing the levels of toxins in our air and water, depleting minerals and topsoil, and driving creatures to extinction. For people of faith, this is not just a moral issue. It is also a faith issue. It challenges our sense of justice and compassion toward current and future generations of human beings and other creatures, and it calls us to examine what it means to be human beings, and what our relationship is with the One who creates and loves the world.

As the natural sciences increase our understanding of the interconnectedness of all of creation, they also lead us toward new understandings of ourselves as creatures within creation. Awareness that humans are threatening the future presents us both with an imperative for changes in human thought and action, and an unprecedented opportunity for revitalizing our faith traditions. We take the biblical vision of 'a new earth' (Isaiah 65 and Revelations 21) as a word of deep hope for a creation that groans in travail. What does it mean to be faithful in light of this vision? What kind of action does this hope call us to take?
